EXOTHERMIC SLEEVES - 1600 ND

exothermic sleeves-1600 ND

INTRODUCTION :

ACEFEED-EX-ND is used as top feeder for feeding all grades of Iron & Steel Castings. Due to the smaller contact area, it will reduce gas cutting & the grinding work. It offers benefit of the breaker core & in many cases, it is possible to knock off the feeder. The contact diameter of the sleeve is less than 50% of the original diameter of the sleeve thus contact area is minimized. Hence it is suitable where the casting contact area is limited.

APPLICATION :

ACEFEED-EX-ND is used as top feeder to get benefit such as low grinding & low gas cutting work due to reduced opening. It is suitable for ram-up application. It is suitable where space is limited in case of conventional sleeves.

DIRECT POUR SYSTEM

direct pour system

INTRODUCTION :

ACEFEED-DP is a combination of Ceramic Foam Filter (VUKOPOR)& Insulating Sleeve. It is used for Cast Iron, Aluminium, Copper Base alloys & Steel.

MECHANISM :

ACEFEED-DP Mechanism takes place in two stages.

1)   Filtration:

The Filtration effect is due to the mechanical entrapment of inclusions. The change in flow & pressure through the filter causes the contaminants (Inclusions) to stick to the filter labyrinth (Web of pore).

VUKOPOR Filter has maximum open pore structure (minimum internal blockages). This enhances the filtration efficiency & flow rate. It also reduces entrapment of air bubbles into the metal downstream. It changes Turbulent flow to a Laminar flow. It also reduces the oxide formation within the filter.

2) Feeding :

Once Filtration takes place Ceramic Foam Filter floats at top & Feeding action starts. Feeding effect is due to nature of both highly Insulating & high refractoriness 1400-1500OC of the Sleeve. It improves the temperature gradients within the castings & promotes the Directional Solidification.

SALIENT FEATURES OF ACEFEED-DP :

TYPES OF ACEFEED-DP :

1. Conventional ACEFEED-DP :-It can be used as Ram up or insert applications. It is suitable for Jolt squeeze molding machine, hand molding & for High Pressure & Disamatic Molding machine.

2. Insert types ACEFEED-DP :-In this type of ACEFEED-DP, ceramic foam filter is placed into the seat provided at the top of the sleeve. It can be usedin insert applications in the pre-formed Mould cavity in the upturned molding system. The sleeve is located below the down-sprue. It is available in 50, 70 & 90 dia.

3. Neck down type ACEFEED-DP :-It is mainly used for top feeder application where feed metal requirement is higher. It is directly placed on the casting surface with or without breaker core.

HOT TOPS

hot tops

INTRODUCTION :

ACEFEED-HT are Export Grade hot tops which are highly Insulating or Exothermic, light weight, pre-baked, in pre-fabricated shapes used as feeder heads & are fitted on or Inserted in the Ingot moulds.

ACEFEED-HT have good strength, close dimensional accuracy and is an easy disposable assembly. It will offer proper feeding of the Ingots during solidification of liquid steel. Primary and secondary piping is restricted within the Hot Top portion thereby producing sound ingots without shrinkage defects. Use of Hot Tops leads to increase in yield of the steel.

ACEFEED-HT: TYPE AND SIZES AVAILABLE

ACEFEED-HT can be designed as Super Imposed, Over Imposed, Semi Inserted, Inserted, Deep Inserted as per Customer’s requirements in single piece, Four Flats, or Flats and Corner system and segmented for Polygonal big Ingot moulds.

ACEFEED-HT are also available in various sizes like self-supporting where use of extension ring could be avoided.

RECOMMENDATIONS :

While using super Imposed Hot Tops (Single piece or 4 flats and 4 corners system), we recommend use of cast fabricated type extension ring/counter weight for holding the Hot Top tightly to avoid lifting or leakage.

DATA REQUIRED FROM CUSTOMER TO DESIGN ACEFEED-HT :

Before we develop, Hot Top for particular Ingot mould, we need the following data from Customer.

  1. 1. Mould drawing.
  2. 2.Mould imprint (Where Hot Top is to be fitted)
  3. 3.Weight of steel ingot including Hot Top metal weight.
  4. 4.Type of steel to be cast.

Along with ACEFEED-HT, we supply requisite quantity of ACEFEED-HTC either in powder form or in Tile form. ACEFEED-HTC or Tile is placed immediately in Hot Top portion as soon as liquid metal rises in Hot Top portion. As soon as the liquid metal rises in Hot Top, the powder being highly insulating, reduces the heat loss due to radiation. Due to expanding nature of material, radiation losses are substantially curtailed, thereby side chilling is reduced and good feed pattern is obtained.

ACEFEED-HTC is added to the rising metal surface as soon as it reaches in the Hot Top portion. As ACEFEED-HTC / Tile is having desired exothermic/insulating properties, it reduces the heat losses due to radiation to a great extent. Due to expanding nature of ACEFEED-HTC, better insulation is achieved thereby side chilling is reduced and good feed pattern obtained.

STORAGE PRECAUTIONS :

ACEFEED-HT should be stored in dry place and to be used within 4-5 months from the date of supply.

HOT TOPPING COMPOUND

hot topping compound

INTRODUCTION :

ACEFEED-HTC is hot topping compound in Insulating and Exothermic type Anti-Piping Compounds.

ACEFEED-HTC when added on the surface of liquid metal, expands & burns immediately and forms an insulating and porous crust which minimizes heat loss due to radiation. It helps to keep the metal in liquid state for longer time so that feeding efficiency of the riser is increased. The cooling rate of liquid metal in the riser is prolonged due to high insulation properties of the Hot Topping Compounds.

ACEFEED-HTC keeps metal more hot in riser area for a long time for efficient feeding & minimizes casting rejection due to shrinkage, porosity & piping etc. and produces sound and pressure tight castings.

TYPES OF ACEFEED-HTC :

A) EXOTHERMIC TYPE (NON EXPANDING TYPE):

  • ACEFEED-HTC-NE-HI: It is a thermit type anti-piping compound and highly sensitive to heat. Non-carbonaceous material Forms a hard crust. High heat output. It is recommended for C. I. castings up to 6″ I.D. risers.
  • ACEFEED-HTC-NE-HE: It is thermit type anti-piping compound and highly exothermic. It burns intensively and forms a hard crust when comes in contact with the liquid metal. Presence of Non-carbonaceous material forms a hard crust. It is recommended for steel castings above 4″-5″ I.D. risers.

B) EXOTHERMIC TYPE (EXPANDING TYPE):

  • ACEFEED-HTC-E-HI: It is moderate exothermic but highly insulating type and have expanding properties. When it comes in contact with liquid metal, it forms a soft crust which is brittle in nature. The crust can be skimmed of easily from the riser head. It has excellent flowable properties and spreads evenly on the liquid surface and stops heat losses due to radiation. This product is recommended for steel casting risers from 6″-12″ I.D. It is also ideally used along with insulating hot tops for the production of steel ingots. It has very low fume level.
  • ACEFEED-HTC-E-HE: It is Highly exothermic and more expandable. When it comes in contact with liquid metal gets swelled and acts as an insulating cover to avoid heat loss due to radiation. It spreads evenly on the liquid surface. Formation of fumes are very low. Addition rate is very small as it has good expanding properties.

This product is recommended to be used along with Insulating Hot Tops & Sleeve for the production of castings & Stainless Steel Ingots. (Sleeves size upto 6” ID & Stainless Steel Ingots 200-600 Kg)
